Fragrant, violet red single flowers with yellow stamens bloom from spring through summer. Canes covered with tiny sharp thorns work well in the landscape as an impenetrable barrier. Large bright red edible fruits develop in fall. One of the toughest roses, rugosa is cold hardy, and tolerant of wind, drought, and salt.
